DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital to participate in 17th Annual Motor City Mitten Madness
Detroit -

Detroit – The Burn Center at DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital and the Detroit Red Wings will once again join forces for the 17th Annual Motor City Mitten Madness (MCMM) on Monday, November 30 and Thursday, December 3 during the Red Wings games at the Joe Louis Arena.

The event encourages fans to bring new or gently used cold weather wear items such as gloves, mittens, scarves, socks and hats. Collected items will be distributed to Detroit area shelters and warming centers to aid in the prevention of frostbite among the homeless. MCMM is part of the Burn Center’s frostbite prevention program. Frostbite lectures are also given to help reduce the number of frostbite cases among shelter residents.

Collection bins will be located at the upper and lower West entrances as well as the upper East entrance. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

Detroit Receiving Hospital, Michigan’s first Level I Trauma Center, is an adult specialty hospital offering expertise in emergency medicine, complex trauma, critical care, neuroscience and gerontology.  As the region’s leader in emergency medicine, Receiving’s emergency department treats more than 101,000 patients annually, and nearly 60% of Michigan’s emergency physicians are trained at Receiving.  Receiving also features the state’s largest burn center, Michigan’s first hospital-based 24/7 hyperbaric oxygen therapy program, and Metro Detroit’s first certified primary stroke center.  The University Health Center, the outpatient arm of Detroit Receiving Hospital, sees more than 250,000 patients a year, making it one of the busiest hospitals in the country.

Detroit Receiving Hospital is one of nine hospitals operated by the Detroit Medical Center (DMC). The DMC is proud to be the Official Healthcare Services Provider of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons.
